Two pianists play the lead role in two separate works of two famous composers.
There are not many works for two pianos and orchestra. Still, the Chamber Orchestra of Arc-en-Ciel brings two well-known compositions with conductor Herman Engels, who compiled the program.
Mozart wrote a concerto for two pianos and orchestra that will be played by Tom Hermans and Annick Truyts. He composed this sparkling double concerto for him and his sister Nannerl, who was extremely gifted, like her brother Wolfgang . Wolfgang and Nannerl liked to make music together.
Camille Saint-Saëns composed "Le Carnaval des Animaux" ("The Carnival of the Animals") in which a number of animals strikingly portray their characteristic traits. The work is satirical and humorous. Saint-Saëns wrote it purely for fun and wanted to keep it within the "private sphere", and not intended for the public. After his death it is was published and became a success. Tom Hermans and Annick Truyts also play in "Le Caranaval of the Animals" featured on the two pianos and orchestra.
The flamboyant Rossini opens the concerto with the spirited overture "La Scala di Seta".
